Color photography

Tour de France by Andreas Gursky shows a zig-zag section of the route followed by the world’s most famous bicycle race. The bird’s eye panorama of the twisting road is balanced between a mountain landscape and an abstract image.

Large-scale panoramic photos, usually taken from a high altitude, allow the viewer to see what is usually beyond the bounds of the visible. Gursky meticulously creates large-scale works that enthral the viewer by their breath-taking scale, detail and color. Gursky achieves an effect of complicity by means of modern computer technologies, which he himself has helped to develop.

Gursky was born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1955, currently lives and works in Düsseldorf.
