Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills, 1999

Canvas, oil and photography, printed on Kodak Endura paper, aluminium base

In his photo Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills, Testino conveys the atmosphere of this famous street at the time of day, after which it is named, as the lights of passing cars glow against the serene backdrop of palm trees. Taillights were captured using long exposure, which also gives the impression of a landscape devoid of human presence.

Testino is best known as a fashion photographer. His works are published in magazines worldwide from Vogue to Vanity Fair and are used in the advertising campaigns of fashion houses such as Burberry, Gucci, Dolce&Gabanna and Versace. His photographs, whether portraits or landscapes, emphasize the cultural, commercial and social factors that define modern life.

Testino was born in Lima, Peru, in 1954. He currently lives and works in London.
